When you work hard every day, sometimes it can really feel like it’s too much. Physical fatigue can usually be dealt with by resting and sleeping. Anxiety can be handled by playing computer games and watching a good movie. But what do you do if your level of mental fatigue gets to a point where you can no longer deal with anything, and no activity seems to help?
The mind is constantly at work. It creates day-to-day scenarios and solutions during the daytime, and it creates worries, desires and dreams during sleep. If you spend a lot of time doing intellectual work, you’ll find that you can easily become overwhelmed, if you don’t take a few measures to take proper care of your mind.
The first step is to disconnect from your worries and cares – especially those associated with work. It’s fine to think about them while you’re working, but when you stop, commit to put it all out of your mind and do only activities that won’t remind you of them, such as taking a walk, listening to music or listening to a funny podcast. Getting someone else to interact with outside of work is always good and a great anxiety treatment to move you in the right direction.
It’s also important to create a daily routine that can help you organize your thoughts more easily, and integrate it with an exercise and meditation program, so you can relax your mind and bring vital oxygen to your brain. That way, you’ll have a good dose of mental rest to complement your physical rest as well.
